Describes TNO technology in the area of nanocomposites, so-called planomers. Planomers are polymers with nanoscale modified clay particles that enhances the properties of many polymers. TNO specializes in dispersing mineral and synthetic clays on nano-scale dimensions in various polymeric matrices: registered as the Planomer® technology. The Planomer® technology is a general concept for producing polymer nanocomposite materials, which show remarkable characteristics, such as improved mechanical, barrier and thermal properties.



A spin-off from this technology is the production of nano-sized pigments called Planocolors® technology. These nano-sized pigments are based on nano-sized inorganic carrier particles that are modified with organic dyes. Planocolors® have improved thermal and UV stability and are suitable for transparent products over a broad scale of colors at low concentrations.
Patents on the Planomers® and Planocolors technology are pending.
