EnerSys Offers New SBS Battery with More Power in the Same Footprint

EnerSys, the world's largest manufacturer, marketer and distributor of industrial batteries, has now made available the SBS190F, the newest and highest capacity thin-plate pure lead (TPPL) VRLA battery in its PowerSafe SBS line. The new SBS190F is up to 10 percent more powerful than conventional VRLA batteries in the same footprint, which provides users with additional capacity in existing cabinets and enables the design of new cabinets with smaller battery compartments and/or increased battery capacity for telecommunications and other reserve power applications.
With its advanced pure-lead technology, the SBS190F is more resistant to self-discharge and positive grid corrosion, which enables the battery to provide a shelf life of up to three times that of lead-calcium batteries, and offers an increase in power density without sacrificing life. The SBS190F has a design life greater than 10 years.
The battery's unique TPPL grid design and high quality manufacturing makes it highly reliable, with improved power density and reduced recharge time, which allows the battery to better handle subsequent power interruptions. The battery's rugged design also offers better functionality in extreme temperatures and harsh environments and is particularly suitable for wired and wireless telecom outside plant applications in cell sites, cabinets, CEV's and huts, as well as for utility/switchgear and cable TV applications.
The battery's footprint supports several outside telecommunication cabinets and fits a 48-volt configuration in a 23-inch frame application. In addition, a seismic zone 4 rack holds up to 6 x 48V strings of batteries for a total capacity of 1,140Ah, making the SBS 190F suitable for use in small CO applications. The battery's front terminal design also makes it easy to install and maintain.
