MAGNET (the Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network) today announced that it has created http://jobmagnet.org, a new web site designed to match those seeking work in manufacturing with employers in Northeast Ohio looking to fill the hundreds of open positions in their manufacturing operations.

Manufacturing is the largest industry in Northeast Ohio, employing 330,000 workers. In each of the next five years, 5,000 well-paying manufacturing jobs will be available in the region.

"We thought it would be in the best interest of both manufacturers and job seekers to establish a single source that could connect area residents looking for work and careers with the many local manufacturing companies who currently have hundreds of open jobs," said MAGNET Director of Education and Training Judith Crocker.

Since January of this year, MAGNET has been conducting an outreach campaign called Dream It! Do It! designed to convince young people to prepare for and seek careers in manufacturing, encourage manufacturers to take a leadership role in advancing career opportunities in manufacturing and enhance the public perception of manufacturing in Northeast Ohio.

"Developing this job portal evolved as a result of the feedback we've received since the beginning of the year from students, job seekers, the community, public officials and manufacturers throughout the region. They each expressed the desire for a single point of contact dealing with employment for the manufacturing industry so we decided to meet that need through jobmagnet.org," said Crocker.

The site will use spider technology on a daily basis to identify and aggregate all possible manufacturing jobs collected online from job boards, employer web sites, recruiting & staffing web sites, newspapers and niche/vertical sites. Approximately 1,500 Northeast Ohio manufacturing are expected to be listed on jobmagnet.org this month. Over the course of the coming year, some 5,000 jobs will cycle through the site.

Students and job seekers who register will be able to search for all available jobs and internships as well as post their resumes for consideration by prospective employers. There is no cost for this registration.

Employers registering with the site can list their open positions and search the resumes of prospective employees. The service is free for employers through November. On December 1, a nominal annual fee for unlimited use will be required.
