FATEHGARH SAHIB: A three day international conference on "Advances in Mechanical Engineering AME-2006" started at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib.

The conference, which was organized by Mechanical Engineering Department of the college was inaugurated by Dr. S.K Salwan, Vice Chancellor Punjab Technical University Jalandhar while Dr. S.K. Pandey, Director Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal (Sangrur) presided over the workshop while former Punsup Chairman Kirpal Singh Libra was guest of honour. BBSBEC, Fatehgarh Sahib principal Dr. D.S. Hira said that 300 papers were received in the conference all over the world out of which 148 were selected for the publishing of proceeding of the conference.

He said that Department of Science and Technology (DST) of Government of India, New Delhi had granted Rs. 1 lakh to the college for organizing this conference . He said that the decision of Government of India regarding grant of the amount to this self funded college managed by SGPC is landmark achievement. He said that research work doneby the college faculty in the college would get fillip due to this grant and would encourage them to organize such International events In his address, the V-C said that India's strength lies in the availability of educated and skilled manpower and its proven track record in meeting international standards of quality. He discussed the high temperature cooling of hypersonic aerospace vehicles which is essential in missile design. On this occasion, the V-C released "Advances in Mechanical Engineering AME-2006".

During the conference , Subramaniam Balakrishan, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg ,Canada; J. Marzband, Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran.; H. Ghari Blu, Zanjan University, Iran ; G. Lavande, Ecole Centre Department, Canada ; Dhirgham Alkahafagly, College of Engineering, Iraq presented their papers.

Dr. Harpreet Singh chairman of the conference informed the media persons the aim of the conference is to allow participants an opportunity to discuss the recent developments in mechanical engineering to review challenges faced by the community in the 21st Century. He said during the three day conference different modules- design analysis, thermal engineering and manufacturing engineering and science would be read out during the conference. He said that delegates from Canada, USA, Iran, UK, France, Sweden, Bangladesh will present their research papers in the coming days .

Dr Harpreet Singh said that during the conference international research paper in the field of Mechanical was presented. He said that scientist from all over the world are in the International Advisory Committee of the conference which is first of its kind in the district Fatehgarh Sahib . He said that member of the advisory committee includes Scientists from USA, Canada, UK, Saudi Arabia, Japan and from various Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in India .He said that only those paper was presented which got the nod of the advisory committee Prof. A.P.S. Sethi, Organizing Secretary of the conference also expressed his views .
