Bredesen misses campaign stop due to mechanical problem with plane
7th November, 2006
Gov. Phil Bredesen missed his scheduled campaign appearance in Jackson this evening because of mechanical difficulties with his campaign charter plane, according to a spokeswoman. The plane was turned around and landed safely at Nashville International Airport, and no one was injured.
The governor's plane was supposed to land in Jackson around 5 p.m., said spokeswoman Amber McDowell. The crew noticed a failure of the plane's hydraulic system, which affects the landing gear and brakes, she said, and they decided that turning around would be the safest thing. The pilot was able to extend the landing gear before landing successfully in Nashville.
The governor, his wife and eight campaign workers were on board a turboprop plane, McDowell said. They were heading to Jackson from a campaign appearance in Johnson City.
