Mechanical troubles keep vintage plane from flying
9th September, 2006

Mechanical problems prevented a vintage plane from making it to the Aviation Museum of Kentucky at Blue Grass Airport yesterday.

The 1929 Ford Tri-Motor was to have been on display and available for rides from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. yesterday.

"They've been working on it all day long," museum development director Jerry Landreth said. The plane was in Pontiac, Mich., where it was on public display for several days.

"They definitely don't want to leave unless they have them fixed," Landreth said.

Landreth said people who made reservations to ride on the "Tin Goose" have been offered another time to ride it or their money back.

"We certainly regret the fact that it has not gotten here yet."

The plane was to be available to the public at Blue Grass Airport from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday.

Landreth was optimistic that the Ford Tri-Motor would be in Lexington by today, and he said he was hoping that the plane could stay past lunchtime Monday.
