Mechanical fire damages house

A dishwasher fire in the 1800 block of Westhaven Avenue NW in Salem caused limited damage to a home Monday.
A mechanical fire smoldered in a newer Whirlpool dishwasher for a while be-fore a neighbor heard a smoke detector and called firefighters.
Bill Holmstrom, a spokesman for the Salem Fire De-partment, said the fire was contained in the dishwasher, which was a total loss at $400.
