Toyota duo Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli were left languishing down in 23rd and 27th places at the end of the second practice session for the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis after both suffered mechanical problems.

Coming to United States after claiming only their third points finish of the year in Canada, Toyota are hoping for a hint of the form that allowed them to take their first and, so far only, pole position last year.

However, both drivers completed no more than 23 laps between them when gremlins struck, putting Toyota behind schedule in their weekend testing.

Jarno Trulli was the better off of the two drivers in 23rd place, but the Italian nonetheless found himself sidelined with electronic problems to be forced out of Friday practice early for the second race in succession.
