Interstate mechanical meets state botanical
24th May, 2006
Bibb County's glades, including the Alabama gentian pinkroot, could be seen at only one place in the world, but U-Haul International is taking it to the streets. The truck rental company is featuring the flora on 600 of its 26-foot moving vans nationwide. In 1992, Georgia botanist James Allison and friends discovered a glade community unlike any other while on a canoe trip in Bibb County. The find was hailed a "botanical lost world" with more than 61 rare plants, eight of which were said to be entirely "new to science." U-Haul will officially unveil the Alabama SuperGraphic when its "Venture Across America" campaign visits the Cahaba Lily Center in West Blocton at 9 a.m. Saturday.
