Lead Engineer, Mechanical Systems (6 months contract with potential to run for 2+ years) - required by this small but growing consultancy, working in the space, defence & aerospace sector. A Senior Engineer is required to lead the engineering and programme activities of a significant aircraft mechanical system development.
Role & responsibilities: To be the architect of the integrated engineering solution. Ensure compatibility across system interfaces. Ensure that design work is consistent with departmental standards. Provide leadership to the engineering team to provide the necessary solution to time, cost and quality and working extensively across the supplier base. Ensure that the Engineering Requirements are robust and that they are met or exceeded by the proposed solution. Ensure that engineering plans and resource requirements (inc. skills matrix) are developed. Participate actively in the integration and optimisation of the system across Engineering, Procurement and Manufacture.
The successful candidate will be a Degree standard engineer, probably in a mechanical discipline but with experience of leading a multi-discipline team: structures, hydraulics, avionics, and mechanisms. You will need strong leadership and organisational skills. At least 15 years experience in an engineering (preferably aerospace) design and development environment and a minimum of 5 years team leadership experience. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivated and driven to achieve project goals and milestones.
