Mechanical failure returns jet to RDU
16th February, 2006
A commuter jet leaving Raleigh-Durham International Airport had to return to the airport shortly after takeoff due to mechanical difficulties Wednesday evening, according to RDU spokesman Karl Bayer.
American Eagle Flight 4641 to Austin, Texas, was grounded temporarily because of unspecified problems with the aircraft, Bayer said.
Bayer said no one was injured, adding that RDU crash units are always on standby as a precautionary measure.
The flight was scheduled to leave RDU at 5:40 p.m., according to American Airlines' Web site, and was able to take off again at 6:53 p.m. It arrived in Texas 80 minutes late.
The plane, an Embraer Regional Jet, can carry up to 44 people.
