Fatal U-Haul truck deemed safe, Peterborough man charged with careless driving
10th February, 2006

A Peterborough man is charged in connection to a fatal U-Haul truck crash in November.

Northumberland County OPP have completed its mechanical investigation into the cause of the collision that occurred on County Road 30, just north of Campbellford, on Nov. 30.

OPP say the U-Haul truck overturned and Gordon Annis, 45, of Peterborough, was ejected. He died as a result of injuries. He was a passenger inside the truck and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

OPP say the U-Haul was inspected and found to have no mechanical defects affecting the handling and operation of the vehicle.

OPP add they are awaiting test results from Transport Canada in regards to the operation of Mr. Annis' seatbelt.

James Milne, 40, of Peterborough, is charged with careless driving. He appears in court on Feb. 23
