JM Eagle Makes Good on Pipe Measurement
7th May, 2010

JM Eagle announced today that it has entered into an agreement with six California counties to standardize the length of its pipe sold in hardware stores.

A year ago, state inspectors found instances of JM Eagle electrical pipe sold in retail hardware stores that were 0.1 to 0.35 of an inch off measurement on 10-foot sections. The company, as well as other pipe manufacturers, was producing pipe under the applicable industry standards set forth by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), which allow for a 1-inch pipe-length variation.

After learning of the conflicting California state law, JM Eagle changed its practices immediately.

"JM Eagle has always followed the highest industry standards and has taken steps to ensure our customers are fully satisfied with the products we provide," said Neal Gordon, JM Eagle's vice president of marketing.

JM Eagle has guaranteed all future pipe sold will be of the exact designated length and has agreed to pay restitution while not admitting liability.

Following the agreement, Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O'Malley said JM Eagle "was cooperative ... and took immediate steps to remedy the problem."
