RoHS, which originated in Europe, sets guidelines regarding the use of certain substances in the manufacturing of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). The RoHS regulation bans the sale of EEE in Europe that contain more than well defined levels of certain hazardous substances. Compact Appliance's EdgeStar line of portable air conditioners comply with the RoHS directive which mandates maximum levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.
